Commissioned through a grant from Meet The Composer and first
premiered February 1994 in Los Angeles with the Nat Adderley Quintet and horn sections
from the Los Angeles area. This suite utilizes several of the compositions that are
associated with Mr. Adderley and original compositions by Cecil. Compositions and
arrangements are being added to the suite and will be made available as they are
completed.

Compositions for Jazz Philharmonic Orchestra
Symphonic Orchestra + Big Band
A work for symphony orchestra and soloist that was commissioned by the
Cleveland Chamber Symphony and premiered in Cleveland in 1990. The composition is based on
Cecil's musical impressions of trips he made to Senegal and Brazil. The piece had
it's second premiere at the University of Illinois in 1991 as part of the salute to
African-American composers and was broadcast over the airwaves by public radio stations
around the country for six months following the concert. The most recent performances
were in January of 1999 with the Westchester Philharmonic at Purchase, NY
and The Manhattan School of Music Jazz Philharmonic, New York, NY in
May 2003 and April 2004.
